    is this blueberry or Papuan orange spotted? In Chris’ video the blueberry has orange rim, less orange speck and no orange speck on their head. I’ve been doing research, and the only 2 places so far in the US that have blueberry similar to Chris’ video are aquaticmotiv and advanced aquatic systems

    I had a betta in what was probably a .5 gallon "tank" as a young teen and loved him and obviously he didnt live more than a few months because i had no idea how to properly care for him. Fast forward almost 20 years and when my own kids wanted goldfish i did months of research before agreeing. I still made mistakes along the way, but i corrected them and my fish were able to thrive. It took me two years of keeping goldfish to feel like i could handle a community tank. I now have multiple and am raising fry. I love animals and didnt want to make them suffer from my own ignorance so i was very careful and researched every single aspect of my set ups. I still feel shame what younger me put my betta through out of ignirance. I cannot imagine monetizing that ignorance in this way if you had any respect for the life that was lost.

    Great video, when you mentioned one fish dying but everything else being fine it made me think of something that I don't see talked about a lot. Often people talk about fish from petco, petsmart, or other stores seemingly randomly dying within a year of being bought. I know a lot of people blame this on sickness or genetics, and that is probably the case, but I think more people should consider, how old was the fish when you got it? If you are buying fish raised on huge farms they were probably not fed huge amounts as to grow to adults as quick as possible. They were also probably not sorted out for shipment Right as they turn adults. Especially short lived fish (fish that live on average 3 years or less) you could very easily be getting a fish that is over a year or more old and not even know it. When Petco buys 100 adult guppies they are getting the cheapest ones, they might even be getting old breeding stock that are very very old. I remember Keeping Fish Simple talking about, I think rams, saying that Australia almost always gets old breeding stock so they are always old when they get them. This can also effect wild caught fish, as if they are fully grown you can't know their age. Bamboo shrimp are said to have a "2 year" lifespan" but I know plenty of people that have had them for way longer. I believe the 2 year lifespan is because they are almost all wild caught as adults and you can't know their age.

    I've seen a guy overhere(The Netherlands) just filled a bucket with aquarium water and putted brine shrimps in it. Placed it in a corner in his garden partially in the sun. It became an ecosytem/hatchery without doing anything. In winter the bucket was in freezing temperatures, but somehow they always survive enough to keep it going. This looks like an awesome easy way for trying.

    No offence, and I liked this video, but its difficult to absorb everything you said here into a coherent understanding of how substrate utilization benefits or damages an environment. I get that it can take time to establish, but as father fish points out, cycling is a meme that has poisoned peoples understanding of aqua ecosystems - there is just a bunch of life going on at different levels in well established tanks that is not present in a new tank - unless you introduce them. But it seems to me that apart from the development of an anaerobic environment in your substrate you *can* introduce most everything to have an immediately active tank that will support life.

    Not a fan of any of it. I remember being told that mankind is the greatest thing to ever happen to this planet. I disagree. I think mankind is the greatest waste of oxygen this planet has ever seen and ever will see. If I want reassurance that people still suck, I can go to any public place, turn on a TV, open Facebook, or download that cesspool of an app. Morals are not a learned behavior they can only be faked to a point. Garbage will always be garbage regardless of how fancy you dress it.

    I was recently thinking about how I have changed my approach in the year of my obsession. At first I wanted a show tank as fast as possible but slowly for various reasons, it has become a constant labor of love to do whatever I am currently working on. I think about what I want to do next and figure out how to go about (afford) it. Overall my tanks look better and I am finally able to see at least some of my goals come to fruition.

    You're posting this video to get engagement from everyone that knows better and needs to share it. Clicks are also on your mind. Seems a little hypocritical. Everyone starts somewhere and everyone kills fish in this hobby eventually. If you want better views on shorts, then maybe you could learn from that guy. It clearly isn't the information that he's sharing that's getting the views, but how he's sharing it. Be the change you want to see. Make the better content, don't just complain about it. Sorry if that comes off negatively. I know you could make informative, anti-brainrot, short-form content if anyone could.

    The only way to combat this kind of "content" is for everybody to outright ignore it (applies to far more than pets). Sadly, most people don't even realize/care how the big tech algorithms shovel them sensationalized "content" in an attempt to get them addicted. Rapid AI development is only going to exacerbate the issues. Education like you've been doing helps and is about all that can be done, but it's certainly an uphill battle. A big part of the blame lies on the chain pet stores as well... 99.9% of the people who walk into that fish section aren't equipped to deal with an advanced fish like that, the store itself and the employees likely aren't equipped to deal with it.

    In this day and age with technology at our fingertips, there is no excuse for lack of research. He bought the fish before even setting up the tank. I didn't see any dechlorinator added to neutralize the tap water of chlorine/chloramines so the green spotted puffer could breath without the chemicals frying its gills. Its water was slowly poisoning him as the tank had to go through its cycle to stabilization with the puffer in it while the ammonia continued to rise to deadly levels. Ten to one, the ammonia level was off the charts. Even without a test kit, the guy could have brought a water sample in to the store for a free water test. As soon as the guy said, "What shall we name him," the mean side of me said, "Name him...Dead In A Few Weeks." He is learning as he goes but at the expense of the lives and health of his acquired "pets." We all have had fish die from our lack of knowledge back in the days before internet because it was unavailable or hard to find or the store selling it had no idea. But, research is just a click away nowadays and there are so many detailed explanations, how-tos and pictures of the fish available to research along with people'spersonal experiences through online fish forums which are readily accessible. For those without internet access or a phone, there are plenty of libraries that have internet access to research and learn. Just my two cents. P.S. Personally, the videos for views is sickening when it involves the suffering of anything. <•))))~{
